Skid Pan Car Control Day with MISSION MOTORSPORT

📍 Thruxton Circuit · Andover, Hampshire SP11 8PN

Organised by The Radiator Arms

SKID PAN EXPERIENCE DAY with support from MISSION MOTORSPORT: The Forces Motorsport Charity We have now run two of these days at Thruxton, and they have proven very popular. We are delighted to announce our next event on JUNE 8TH. This is a VERY low number event (tEN participants) hosted by Thruxton Circuit on their skid pan, with help from our friends at Mission Motorsport. A skid pan is a specially designed, ultra low grip surface which here is fitted with a built in sprinkler system. This means that you will be driving on a surface approximating that of ice. It is a "P" shaped track, with a run-up section and a generously sized circle at the end. The track is surrounded by regular high grip tarmac, meaning if you leave it you will come to a stop quickly. Because the surface is deliberately low grip, tyre wear is almost non-existent, making it the perfect place to learn low speed, low grip car control - how to balance the transition between over and under steer, as well as braking and manoeuvring techniques for difficult situations. What's included in the day? FULL AND EXCLUSIVE use of the skid pan for ourselves, for the entire day. Snacks and drinks through the day, and a lunch at the local pub Instructors on hand to teach you the essentials of car control "Club house" to hide in if the weather is inclement Sim Rig with a hot lap challenge while you're not on the skid pan A very special treat courtesy of MISSION MOTORSPORT A What Now? Mission Motorsport are the UK's Armed Forces Motorsport charity. Founded in 2012, they have helped thousands of service veterans into civilian jobs, with a focus on those whose lives have been affected by their time in service. Their in-house engineers have built a number of "speciality" vehicles for entertainment and team building exercises, and have very kindly agreed to bring one along for us to use on the day. This is a very rare opportunity that is NOT available to the general public, and will be not just hugely entertaining, but a chance to talk with people who have direct experience of this amazing charity. The car involved is known as Lightning McQueen, a first generation Mazda MX5 designed to look like the Cars character. Unlike that one, he is no fire breathing racer. Instead it is a car which has had the controls split! So, steering on one side and pedals on the other - the ultimate team builder! Sounds Great - Who can come and what cars are allowed? This event is open to anybody with a VALID UK DRIVING LICENCE. All cars, provided they are roadworthy, are welcome - the event is all about getting to know your car. With the grip levels so low, you WILL get to feel the back end stepping out, no matter how much or how little power you have! To keep track time fair for all involved, we would recommend one driver per car, however if you wish to share the experience we have a special slightly discounted ticket for two drivers in one car. This is the perfect event for you to give a child, partner or friend a taster of car control in a safe environment. Reminder - they MUST have a driving licence and all participants must not be under the influence of drink or drugs. Our cancellation policy - Tickets are refundable up to one month before the event, a 10% processing fee is charged for refunds or 0% fee for refund taken as credit. Up to two weeks before the event, a 50% refund as credit will be available. Tickets are transferrable up to one week before the event to another driver at no cost. Transfer requests made at shorter notice may be possible, but cannot be guaranteed. There is no cost for changing the vehicle used on the event, provided it meets the requirements of the event and venue. Titanium Club members can get a full credit on events up to 48 hours before (some exceptions apply) PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS NOT A PORSCHE EXCLUSIVE EVENT
