PCGB R16 Vulcan Bomber Visit

MEMBER EVENT This will be R16s 4th annual visit to the Vulcan Bomber XM655 and, as for previous visits, Pete Worrall will be our Host. We are limited to 24 people and 14 Porsches. It is such a popular visit that priority will be given to R16 members who haven’t visited before. Based on previous experience, a reserve list will be in operation should demand exceed supply. One of the highlights at the end of the visit (at around 16:00) is a Porsche group photo in front of XM655; see our WA Group icon for an example. The preservation society looking after XM655 operates as a Charity and there is a charge of £15/person, payable by each visitor on the day of the visit, cash or card. Our group will meet up at our monthly home, the AV8 cafe Cotswold airport (GL7 6BA), at around 10:00 for breakfast, departing at 11:00. To accommodate those who don’t want to meet up at AV8 for breakfast we will then drive to Cirencester Travelodge car park (GL7 5HB) for a second meet point, arriving around 11:20. We will depart at 11:30 and drive to Wellesbourne Mountford airfield (CV35 9EU) arriving by 13:00 ready for our briefing from 13:15. A route map will be issued a few weeks ahead of our visit. The Vulcan bomber is a jet powered, tailless, delta-wing, high altitude strategic bomber, operated by the Royal Air Force from 1956 until 1984. While 134 were originally produced, only 19 survive today and, of these, none are airworthy. This is not because some could not necessarily be made to fly again but due to shortage of Type Airworthiness Engineering expertise, together with associate funding, to certifify fitness.
